Call for Applications for MSc and PhD Scholarships with focus on “Oil Seeds in Uganda”
The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Local Government is implementing a 7-year (2021-2027) National Oilseeds Project (NOSP). The project is funded with a loan from the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). The project goal is “Inclusive rural transformation through sustainable development of the oilseeds sector’.
As part of the capacity-building endeavor, qualified candidates are required to apply for 10 MSc and 5 PhD scholarships within the project. The fellowships will be aligned with research in the following fields of study within Agriculture:
(i) Plant Breeding (1PhD, 1MSc) (ii) Seed Systems (1PhD, 2MSc) (iii) Crop Protection, (1PhD, 1MSc) (iv) Soil Fertility Improvement (2MSc)
(v) Agricultural Economics and Value Chains (1PhD, 2MSc) (vi) Agricultural Extension and rural innovations (1PhD, 2MSc)
Research areas will focus on any of the oil crops grown in Uganda (soybean, sunflower, groundnuts and simsim), with outputs aimed at improving the livelihood of small-holder farmers.
Required Academic qualifications:
- PhD: A Master’s degree from a recognized University in the fields of study specified above. This degree should preferably have been obtained within the last 5 years (from the date of this advert).
- MSc: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Plant sciences or an equivalent from a recognized University.
Other requirements:
- The preferred candidate is one available full-time during the 4 years (PhD) or 2 years (MSc) of the scholarship.
- The candidate should not exceed 35 years (for MSc) or 45 years (for PhD) of age by the time of application.
- Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
