Accountant

Key Responsibilities:

• Document, process, and enter all financial transactions, including payroll, into Zoho Books or other relevant accounting software for all portfolio startups.
• Extract monthly management accounts for all startups and distribute them to relevant teams.
• Consolidate revenues from each startup’s accounting system and update the M&E excel sheet.
• Compute and file taxes and statutory obligations for all portfolio startups, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
• Review and recommend improvements to our accounting systems and financial management structures to ensure alignment with current accounting standards.
• Advise on tax planning strategies to minimize tax burdens and ensure startups are taking advantage of all permissible tax-saving opportunities.
• Collaborate with startups to provide financial insights and support business growth.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. CPA Level 1 is a plus.
• Experience: 2-3 years of accounting experience, ideally within a startup, SME, or entrepreneurial support program environment (preferably in Africa).
• Additional Skills:
  • Proficient in accounting software (Zoho Books, Manager IO, ERP systems, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time role based in Uganda.
• Occasional travel may be required to meet with enterprises or manage administrative tasks at offsite locations.
