Accounts Assistant
Contract
Job Purpose:
Ndejje University is seeking a highly motivated Accounts Assistant to assist in the preparation of relevant documents for expenditure transactions. The successful candidate will support the accounting department by ensuring accurate financial records, proper reconciliation, and effective management of the University’s financial transactions.

Reports to: Management Accountant

Location: Ndejje University, Kampala, Uganda
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Transactions Management:
- Capture information regarding the University’s expenditures into the accounting system.
- Post all departmental petty cash transactions and ensure they are properly accounted for.
- Monitor the University’s expenditure against the annual budget.
- Prepare accurate and complete withholding tax returns.
- Reconciliations and Reporting:
- Perform bank reconciliations for all University bank accounts.
- Maintain and reconcile the University’s creditors and fixed asset register.
- Prepare weekly cash flow reports to ensure that funds are properly managed.
- Assist with the accountabilities for funds advanced to University staff for official duties.
- Administrative Support:
- Ensure proper filing of all expenditure-related documents.
- Provide support to the Management Accountant in various financial tasks as needed.
- Prepare various reports and financial documentation as assigned.
- General Financial Assistance:
- Assist with the monitoring of University expenditure and ensure it aligns with the annual budgets.
- Perform any other accounting-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting or Finance, or any related Accounting and Finance degree from a recognized institution.
- At least Level II of professional qualification in Accounting (e.g., CPA or ACCA).
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as an Accounts Assistant in a reputable organization.
- Proficiency in computerized accounting packages and a strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work beyond normal working hours.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A mature and practicing Christian who aligns with the University’s core values and philosophy.
- Strong standing within the Church and the community.
- Experience in a higher education institution will be an added advantage.
- Age between 25-35 years at the time of application.
