Ambulance Driver

Full-time

The Ambulance Driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of authorized goods and passengers. Supports nurses in performing ambulance services. Ensuring its technical and safety conditions and respecting the country’s traffic rules

Job Responsibilities:
• Operate vehicle according to MTI fleet management policies and Uganda road regulations to ensure the safety and security of passengers (patients, staff, volunteers, guests)
• In emergency cases, support the nurse in administering first aid and additional interventions that support patient health

• Identify maintenance needs and immediately alert the supervisor of any conditions of concern before transporting passengers
• Transport the vehicle to appointed vendor facilities for approved maintenance and repairs to be completed (e.g. oil-change, washing bay, etc.)

• Record all movements in the vehicle logbook and submit weekly inspection reports as per schedule
• Ensure the vehicle always has sufficient fuel
• Ensure passengers use appropriate safety restraints while the vehicle is in motion
• Ensure correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, verify the status of delivered goods against required documents, submit documents to the receiver of goods and return completed documents to the Operations department

• Ensure all passengers have necessary papers in order before traveling
• Keep vehicle clean and free of debris
• Routinely inventory vehicle emergency and first aid supplies and report needs to supervisor
• In case of accidents and emergencies, follow MTI medical emergency procedures and evacuate passengers according to policy; complete written accident report

• Ensure that up to date vehicle and driver documents are in the vehicle as required
• Participate in safety and defensive driving trainings
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education, Experience, Licenses, and certifications

• Minimum of O level (Uganda Certificate of Education-UCE)

• Minimum of 5 years driving experience with Class DL license in an international NGO is required
• Certification in defensive driving from a recognized institution is required
• Certification in First Aid and CPR is an added advantage
• Certification in vehicle mechanics and maintenance is an added advantage
• A clean driving record is fundamental
• Possession of other classes of driving license is an asset (Heavy duty & Light vehicles)
• Experience driving an ambulance or other emergency response vehicles is an added advantage

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• In-depth knowledge of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques
• Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance; First Aid and CPR
• Excellent defensive driving skills
• Skilled in administering First Aid and CPR
• Skilled in identifying maintenance issues
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations to prioritize patient care
• Physically fit and able to load vehicles
• Ability to keep detailed records and write reports
• Ability to follow procedures in response to accidents or emergency situations
• Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
• Professional, courteous, punctual

Level of Education: High School
