Chef

Full-time

The Chef is responsible for delivering food that is not only delicious and cooked to the specifications of the customer but that is safe and fresh as well. Prepare, cook, and serve food to staff in accordance with defined standards and quality, and adhere to food safety/hygiene policy.

KEY DUTIES

  • Prepare/cook complete meals on the menu in time in cooperation with the Kitchen team members.
  • Ensure that the food comes out of high quality and ready to be served in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all ingredients utilized in each dish are fresh, clean, and high quality.
  • Plan menus, determine the size of food portions, estimate food requirements and costs, and monitor order supplies.
  • Maintain inventory and records of food supplies and equipment and replace any missing stock when necessary.
  • Ensure that any/all areas, utensils, and appliances within the kitchen are clean and are up to date with the highest cleaning standards.
  • Take responsibility to ensure that all workstations in the Kitchen are clean and promote effective waste management within the dining room and kitchen.
  • Promote and maintain good housekeeping practices and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards.
  • Assist, Supervise, and guide other Kitchen staff and helpers and ensure that the agreed standards and targets are maintained.
  • Implement and adhere to Food Safety Management system including HACCP systems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Employee Relations Manager or manager-on-duty.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of Certificate in Catering and Hotel Management
  • Two year’s working experience in a similar role
  • A deep understanding of Local Ugandan Cuisine
  • Experience of ordering and communicating with suppliers and vendors
  • Knowledge of quality control, food hygiene and safe working practices of managing kitchen teams and communicating effectively
  • Must speak good English as well as local dialect.
  • In-depth understanding of quantities of produce and portioning
  • Experience working in large kitchens with rigorous cleanliness and hygiene standards.

  • Should possess good Customer Care skills, Communication skills, Interpersonal skills, Records management skills, Confidentiality, professional skills, and good behavioral competencies.
  • Should be highly responsible, reliable, and flexible.

Should be able to bend, and lift to 40 Kgs with the ability to stand for extended periods
