Community Support Officer – REAL Project

Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) is hiring a Community Support Officer – REAL Project
Duty Station: Kyaka11
Reports to: Project Coordinator
Project Duration: 9 Months
The Successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Assist in developing, conducting and implementing baseline and end of project surveys with on-going assessment of needs and capacities of the communities in order to adapt the project to best fit the needs of the community in a dynamic environment.
- Developing a detailed implementation plan – (including monthly, quarterly & annual plans) and facilitate the implementation of DIP and subsidiary activities under the REAL project in close collaboration with the REAP program team.
- Coordinate and implement field activities in a participatory manner following the work plan developed by the project.
- In collaboration with REAP program Team, Coordinate mobilization of the project communities including the selection of project trainers and project beneficiaries in a transparent and inclusive manner.
- Mobilize, orient and train small holder’s farmer groups – Farmer Market School groups
- Negotiate with small holder farmer facilitators and project beneficiaries to boost their contribution to the project
- Get involved technically advise procurement unit when procuring materials and items for the project beneficiaries and office use based on ADRA Uganda finance policy
- Facilitate and support the establishment of climate change irrigation demonstration units among the selected model farmers
- Supervise usage and maintenance of the equipment and tools for REAL project
- Prepare and conduct refresher training for small holders in FMS/FFS, climate smart agriculture and VSLA management
- Supervise, monitor, evaluate the established project interventions – small holder group performance
- Supervise and Support volunteers trainers/facilitators in conducting trainings in the communities
- Conduct regular monitoring of project activities and inputting the data into a relevant database and reporting.
- Provide mentoring to the project trainers and beneficiaries about the establishment and production in the community gardens
- Facilitate, supervise and support farmer group facilitators in recording, documentation of lessons learnt and best practices by regular review and monitoring
- Organize and facilitate regular community meetings and to write minutes and develop and implement a follow up action plan based on the discussions of the meetings.
- Work with the community as a mediator in order to develop creative solutions to solve problems and to adapt according to changes that may come
- Submits monthly regular reports of project activities in ADRA eco-bio farm and community farms
- Attend regular project review meetings
- Participate in and share reports with livelihoods, cash transfer and climate change cluster meetings
- Participate in and share reports during Inter-Agency planning meetings
- Represent ADRA in local meetings organized by LLG or any other stakeholders
- Perform any other project related work as assigned by Project Manager or Country Director or Programs Director from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or relevant course
- Should have 5 years of progressive working experience
- Fluent in English
- Ability to speak the local languages will be an added advantage
- Ability to communicate and interact well with people from different educational, religious backgrounds
- Keen attention to detail and ability to effectively manage time
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to coordinate with stakeholders, contractors, and project team members.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including refugees, local communities, government agencies, and NGO partners.
- Cultural Sensitivity and Adaptability:
- Sensitivity to cultural norms, preferences, and sensitivities within refugee communities.
- Ability to adapt project strategies and approaches to address the unique needs and challenges faced by refugees and persons with special needs.
- While formal education and technical qualifications are important, practical experience, relevant skills, and a commitment to humanitarian principles and inclusive development are equally crucial for effectively supervising construction projects in refugee settlements like Kyaka and Rwamwanja.
- Ability to speak the local languages ie kinyabwisha, Swahili.
