Depot Manager

Full-time

The overall purpose of the Depot Manager is to support the organization in realizing its strategic intent on growth through alignment of its operations and execution through efficient loading, offloading, receiving, and storage of company products. In addition, the role plays an integral part in the Route to Market (RTM) strategy in collaboration with other departments especially the sales and logistics team.

 

Responsibilities
• Strategically manage the depot in compliance with the company’s strategy, SOPs
• policies, and procedures.
• Develop and train sales staff to grow the customer base while taking ownership for business growth.
• Plan work rotas, assign tasks appropriately, and appraise performance.

• Manage, coach, mentor, take part in disciplinary actions, and evaluate the team to ensure a high level of employee motivation and performance.
• Develop and manage the depot within the approved budget with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Manage stock control of products.
• Offer exemplary customer service and support by proving prompt feedback to queries/complaints.
• Ensure compliance to standards of health and safety, hygiene, and security at the depot according to set guidelines.

• Work closely with other Depot Sales team and ensure team cohesiveness;
• Manage the sales and depot operations to ensure achievement of set goals and objectives.

• Analyze stock performance and valuation while advising on stock reorder levels.

• Build networks and appropriate channels for new markets and clients for company’s profitability.
• Undertake market surveys and advise management on market trends.
• Compile, analyze and submit timely depot reports to the head office.

• Establish customer requirements and provide information for decision making.

• Manage and control credit sales for the depot; and
• Any other responsibilities assigned to the job holder by the supervisor from time to time.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
• Bachelor’s Degree in business management, sales and marketing
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience
• Experience in a FMCG company with diverse products

Competencies
Technical & Behavioural competencies
• Proficiency in using MS Office suites (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint etc.).
• Proficiency in the use of operating systems (such as SAP) for Inventory management, budgeting, cost control and tasks management
• Good interpersonal skills
• Financial reporting understanding, accounting qualification, or exposure to the same will be an added advantage
• People management skills
• Previous experience in sales/ business development/ partnership management
• Knowledge of the market
• Knowledgeable of the products offerings
• Reporting skills

Responsibility for finances and physical assets
• The job holder has responsibility for budget planning in the department and is accountable for tracking usage including stocks and work tools assigned

Decision-making
• The job holder has decision making authority on key decisions in the department within existing guidelines and provides recommendations to facilitate final decisions.

• The job requires normal level of confidentiality.
