Reporting to the Livelihoods Officer, the Environment Assistant supports implementation of Environmental regulation compliance activities including report writing, preparing work plans, and supervising Community environment workers:
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with the Livelihoods Officer in Conducting climate risk screening on program activities.
- Conduct regular monitoring of Alight activities to ensure full compliance with environmental compliance regulations. Share the results of this monitoring in a timely manner and follow-up on recommendations given.
- Work closely with team members, partners and local government to build their capacity on environmental compliance, environmental safeguarding and climate adaptation.
- In liaison with the Livelihoods Officer prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual work plans and reports.
- Build the capacity of the members of the implementation team on their particular sector through orientations, one on one discussions and demonstrations in the field.
- In liaison with the Livelihoods Officer review the activities conducted in the field to understand how the quality of implementation of activities would be improved.
- Promote awareness-raising on energy issues through community campaigns on the
benefits and use of clean energy for cooking and lighting to enhance adoption. - Promote restoration of the depleted forest cover, biodiversity through tree-planting at household and community levels.
- Establish and maintain woodlots in the area of operation.
- Promote appropriate technologies and approaches to energy utilization, including
fuels, renewable energy, stoves and lighting and powering technologies. - Collaborate with and support the MEL team in field monitoring visits and data collection.
- Manage and mentor Environment Community workers under his/ her supervision.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- A university degree in Environmental Management; or Environmental Engineering; or Natural Resources Management; or any other closely related discipline of Environmental Science from a recognized University/Institution.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in implementing environment and energy related activities
- Good computer skills in MS Office, especially Excel and Word – with experience in writing reports.
- Self-motivated and pro-active attitude with good organization, planning, and analytic skills, including prioritizing work, multi-tasking, and attention to detail.
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and in constantly evolving work environments.
- Demonstrated analytical, systematic-thinking, and problem-solving skills are definite assets.
