The Executive Director provide strategic leadership and guidance in the governance and management of the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing, implementing and reviewing the UWA Strategic Plan and Conservation Area Management Plans that guide the Authority in achieving its objectives/functions as stipulated in the Uganda Wildlife Act.
- Developing economic, efficient and cost-effective internal management structures to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Preparing and submitting the annual budgets for the Board of Trustees approval and overseeing prudent management of UWA resources within the budget guidelines.
- Coordinating the preparation of periodic statutory and strategic reports to the Board and Ministry responsible for wildlife.
- Planning and organising fundraising programmes in conjunction with the Board of Trustees and staff with the aim of mobilising resources.
- Coordinating the development and promotion of Uganda’s nature-based tourism.
- Establishing and maintaining strong partnership with relevant stakeholders on issues of wildlife conservation.
- Serving as the Secretary to the Board of Trustees and the custodian of the official seal of the Authority.
- Developing and providing appropriate recommendations for consideration by the Board and ensuring the implementation of all policy decisions.
- Representing UWA at Regional and International events. and Multilateral Environmental Agreements meetings.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: Applicants should possess the following minimum qualifications:
- An Honours Bachelor’s Degree in either Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Zoology. Botany. Conservation Biology, Veterinary Medicine, Wildlife Health and Management, Education (Biological), Environmental Science or Environmental Management from a recognised University.
- A Master’s Degree in either of the above disciplines from a recognised University.
- A Post graduate diploma in Management from a recognised Institution.
- Applicants should also have a minimum of fifteen (15) years proven relevant years of working experience in wildlife conservation or Natural Resource Management, at least three (3) of which should have been at Senior Manager or equivalent level from a reputable organisation.
