Field Accountant

Full-time

The Field Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of MTI and donor financial policies and procedures at a regional level. Collaborates with entire Finance team to prepare account analysis and monthly financial reports of all regional projects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor cash and bank payments at the regional level and ensure all expenditure supporting documentation meet MTI and donor requirements.
• Responsible for ensuring all regional level finance information is timely and accurately entered into Unit 4 ERP system in order to provide reliable and updated financial information for decision making.

  • Responsible for reviewing and verifying expenditures for all projects/donors providing funding for field office’s activities, with all the appropriate supporting documents, including expenses, activity reports, and monthly management reports before any payments has been made.
  • Review transactions prepared by and / or posted by the finance assistant into Unit4 ERP system.
  • Prepare monthly finance reports for all field projects in accordance with MTI and donor requirements as per the monthly finance reporting package and ensure timely submission of all information to country office – finance.
  • Prepare analysis of budget versus actual and other internal reports to support the Field management team in decision making.
    • Responsible for field office cash flow management, support Program Managers to prepare monthly fund requests of the projects.
    • Assist Program Manager to prepare budgets and budget realignments based on planned project activities using the approved finance guidelines and given donor regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of WHT and VAT on payments made in the field and submission of a monthly schedule to country office finance for consolidation and filing.
    • Provide field office finance information upon request for audits and donor verifications and also provide additional support whenever required.
  • Ensure complete and accurate field finance files/documents are submitted to the country office 3 days from submission of the monthly report.
    • Responsible for management of Bank accounts for the field office.
    • Ensure non-finance staff are informed of finance procedures to be followed, to comply with MTI and donor requirements.
    • Support in ERP implementation for finance staff at the field level.
    • Ensure that the finance assistants have clear objectives, receive mentorship, and participate in capacity building opportunities.
    • Conduct timely performance evaluations for the finance assistant as per the MTI policy.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting & finance, Business Administration, Economics or Commerce is required.
• Minimum Level 3 progressive stage in accounting certification is required; Full Chartered Accountant or CPA is preferred.

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 3 years of work experience in finance management is required
• Experience working with INGOs is an added advantage

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE
• In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and relevant donor requirements
• In-depth knowledge of ERP systems and computerized accounting software such as Sage, Unit4, etc.

SKILLS
• Skilled in using ERP system to process financial transactions
• Strong administrative skills in managing documentations and project funding information
• Skilled in explaining financial procedures to non-finance staff
• High degree of analytical and financial reporting skills
• A good command of both written and spoken English, with strong interpersonal skills

ABILITIES
• Ability to respond to tight deadlines and changing priorities
• Ability to maintain detailed records with high accuracy
• Highly organized with good quantitative ability
• Ability to act with integrity and maintain the highest ethical standards
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information
• Ability to support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct
