The Field Supervisors enhance post-harvest handling practices in the bean, maize, and rice value chains in Eastern Uganda, specifically in Busoga, Bugisu & Sebei regions.

Reports To: Program Assistant
Location 1: KT Uganda – Busoga Region
Location 2: KT Uganda – Bugishu Region
Location 3: KT Uganda – Sebei Region

This role is to aid the initiative to equip farmers with the skills and knowledge necessary to improve their post-harvest management, thereby boosting the quantity and quality of produce, reducing postharvest losses, and contributing to an increase in traded surplus. The field supervisor will oversee and train the trainers in their designated regions as well as maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
Scope of Work
- Oversight of ToTs:
Provide guidance and supervision to the ToTs.
Review and approve training materials and methods used by the ToTs. - Advanced Training Delivery:
Conduct advanced training sessions focusing on topics such as the EAC Grain Standard, Aflatoxin management, and warehousing practices.
Lead training on the utilization of alternative energy sources for post-harvest management, such as solar dryers. - Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor the overall training process, including the performance of ToTs and the progress of trainees. - Liaison with External Partners:
Act as a point of contact between Kilimo Trust and external stakeholders, such as government officials and consultants, during training and sensitization campaigns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agricultural extension, Agronomy, or a related field. Postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
- Practical experience or formal training in post-harvest management, quality standards (e.g., EAC Grain Standard), or food safety is highly desirable.
- At least 2-5 years of experience in training of farmers, with a focus on agronomy, post-harvest management, quality control, and value chain development within the respective region.
- Proven experience of managing or supervising training programs and providing oversight to field staff or trainers.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and external partners.
- The ability to speak and communicate well in any of the local languages of respective region is an added advantage.
