Finance Manager

The Finance Manager will play a critical role in steering the company’s financial strategy and operations. This position entails comprehensive oversight of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to support AMSAF’s growth and stability. The Finance Manager will be responsible for implementing robust financial controls, managing risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Part of the core role will be maintaining accurate accounting records and delivering timely and insightful financial reporting. The role also involves providing strategic insights to optimize resource allocation and drive efficiency, enabling AMSAF to effectively support its diverse stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:
1. Financial Planning and Strategy
- Develop comprehensive five-year, annual, and seasonal financial plans to support the company’s objectives and long-term growth.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to guide strategic decision-making.
2. Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Provide insights into the company’s financial performance and trends.
3. Risk Management
- Identify and manage financial risks, including agricultural risks (weather, disease, pests), market fluctuations, and operational challenges.
- Implement strategies to mitigate these risks, protecting profitability and stability.
4. Cash Flow and Capital Management
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity, managing working capital and optimizing capital structure for seasonal variations.
- Oversee strategic investments and evaluate debt and equity options.
5. Financial Control and Compliance
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy in financial reporting, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee audits and implement best practices in financial governance.
6. Strategic Financial Decision-Making
- Advise senior management and the board on key financial decisions, including mergers, acquisitions, and investment opportunities.
- Evaluate the financial impact of strategic initiatives.
7. Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate financial performance, forecasts, and strategies to stakeholders, including investors and regulatory authorities.
- Prepare presentations, participate in meetings, and maintain transparency in financial matters.
8. Leadership and Team Management
- Lead the finance team by hiring and developing talent, setting performance goals, and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
9. Business Partnership
- Collaborate with other departments to align financial goals with overall business objectives.
- Provide financial guidance for operational decisions.
10. Contract Management
- Oversee the negotiation, review, and management of contracts, ensuring compliance with financial goals.
11. Tax Planning and Compliance
- Develop tax strategies, ensure compliance with tax laws, and optimize tax efficiency.
- Oversee accurate tax filings and manage audits.

Requirements:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA)
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance and accounting, with at least 2 years in a managerial role
- Experience in the agricultural or Agrifinance sector or digital marketplace platforms
- Familiarity with digital platforms and financial technology solutions
- Experience managing financial projects
- Understanding of the financial and regulatory environment in Uganda or East Africa
- Established professional network within the finance and agricultural sectors in East Africa
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- In-depth understanding of financial and tax regulations
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in financial and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ERPs) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Leadership and team management skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
Languages
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Proficiency in additional languages spoken in East Africa (advantageous)
Communication Requirements:
- Internal Stakeholders: Finance, Accounting, HR & Admin Teams
- External Stakeholders: Investors, lenders, regulatory authorities
Work Conditions:
- Work Environment: Office-based with occasional travel to field locations within Uganda and possibly other East African countries
- Work Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week), with additional hours during peak periods, audits, and special projects
