General Manager of Production

Full-time

The General Manager of Production is responsible for overseeing all production activities within Brooks Agro Farm Limited, ensuring the efficient management of poultry, crops, goats, and rabbits. This role requires involves supervising the Chief Poultry Attendant, the Head of Agronomy, and the Goats and Rabbits Attendant. The Manager of Production will ensure that all operations align with the company’s goals for productivity, quality, and sustainability.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  1. Develop and implement production plans and strategies to optimize productivity and efficiency across all livestock and crop operations.  
  2. Supervise the Chief Poultry Attendant to ensure the proper management of poultry operations, including health, feeding, and welfare of the birds.  
  3. Oversee the Head of Agronomy to ensure effective crop management practices, including planting, maintenance, and harvesting.  
  4. Manage the Goats and Rabbits Attendant to ensure the health and productivity of goat and rabbit populations.  
  5. Monitor and evaluate production processes, making recommendations for improvements as necessary.  
  6. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and biosecurity regulations within the production areas.  
  7. Conduct regular training and development sessions for staff to enhance skills and knowledge in best agricultural practices.  
  8. Maintain accurate records of production activities, including inventory, feed usage, and animal health reports.  
  9. Collaborate with the Human Resource Manager to address staffing needs and performance evaluations for production staff.  
  10. Prepare and manage the production budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.  
  11. Liaise with suppliers and vendors to ensure the availability of quality inputs for production activities.  
  12. Report regularly to the Chief Executive Officer on production performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.  
  13. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or as necessary for the effective operation of the farm.  

Key Deliverables 

  • Production reports for eggs, feeds consumption, poultry mortality rate on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Formulation of new approaches to poultry 

Knowledge and Experience 

  • Knowledge and experience in animal science
  • Knowledge of poultry rearing 
  • Knowledge of record keeping and analysis

Qualifications

A Second-Class Upper division in one of the following degrees from an accredited university:

  • Bachelor of Science in Animal Production
  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Animal Science)
  • Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine

A Postgraduate Degree in Management

Language Preferences

Fluency in English and Luganda, as well as any other local language.
