Graduate Engineer Trainee
Internship
As a Graduate Engineer Trainee, you will undergo a structured training program to gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of a hydroelectric power plant. The role is designed to develop your technical, operational, and analytical skills as you assist in monitoring plant systems, performing routine inspections, and supporting efficient power generation. You will work closely with experienced professionals to learn how to maintain and operate key equipment, adhere to safety standards, and troubleshoot operational issues.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the control room operators in monitoring SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
- Assist in the operation and monitoring of the hydro plant’s systems, including turbines, generators, transformers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Collect operational data, maintain logs, and prepare reports on plant performance, including generation levels, equipment status, and energy efficiency.
- Operate plant control systems under supervision and monitor real-time operational data to ensure optimal performance.
- Participate in routine inspections of plant equipment to ensure proper functioning and prevent potential failures.
- Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with mechanical, electrical, or control systems.
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities in coordination with maintenance teams.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Assist in the identification and mitigation of potential risks and hazards within the plant.
- Support compliance with environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and operational guidelines.
- Participate in technical and safety training programs to build knowledge and skills in plant operations and maintenance.
- Work closely with plant operators, maintenance personnel, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Support team efforts in resolving operational issues and improving overall plant efficiency.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Diploma / bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
- Two years’ experience in an engineering environment.
- Possession of a valid driving permit is an added advantage.
