Applications are invited from suitable and eligible citizens of Uganda to fill the following vacant posts available in the Judiciary Service as specified below. Applicants will be subject to all the Terms and Conditions set out herein.

Applications on Judicial Service Commission Form 1 should be submitted online to the Secretary Judicial Service Commission (JSC), as a SINGLE PDF DOCUMENT to application emails provided against each position on offer which should be received not later than 5:00 p.m of 8th August, 2024

The Judicial Service Commission Form 1 can be accessed at www.jsc.go.ug. This form should be completed in typed letters. Handwritten forms will not be accepted.

Applicants should attach on a duly completed Form and in the order provided herewith the following:

  1. A copy of National ID
  2. A passport size photograph
  3. An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  4. Names, contacts and letters of recommendation of two (2) Professional and two (2) Character referees
  5. Copies of academic certificates and transcripts certified by the issuing Institution
  6. A copy of Certificate of Enrolment
  7. A certified copy of the latest and complete Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities from the Inspectorate of Government for applicants in Judiciary Service and Public Service
  8. An applicants’ self-assessment declaration on competences whose details and format can be accessed at www.jsc.go.ug

Minimum Qualifications and Working Experience:

  • Applicants should be in possession of an Ordinary Level Certificate, Advanced Level Certificate, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from a recognized University / Institution and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre or a recognized Institution.
  • Applicants should have served as a Senior Principal Magistrate Grade I for at least 02 years, or Principal Magistrate Grade 1 for at least 03 years, or Senior Magistrate Grade 1 for at least 04 years or Magistrate Grade 1 for at least 08 years, or as an Advocate in Private Practice or a legal professional in a similar position in a reputable organization / institution or a Law Firm for at least 08 years.
  • Any relevant advanced/post graduate qualification(s), ICT qualification(s) as well as work experience will be an added advantage. A Certificate of Enrolment is a requirement.
  • Applicants appointed to this position will act for a period of one (1) year before being confirmed in a substantive capacity upon performance evaluation being conducted.

The successful candidate will be responsible to the Chief Registrar in performing the following duties:

  1. Taking charge of the Magisterial Area
  2. Supervising all Magistrates and staff in the Magisterial Area
  3. Managing funds released to the Court
  4. Hearing and disposing of civil and criminal cases
  5. Organizing and chairing District Coordination Committees (DCC) and staff meetings
  6. Organizing Open Court Days
  7. Making periodic visits to detention centres within the Magisterial Area
  8. Custodian of the Court Seal
  9. Supervising Local Council Courts
  10. Managing an Inventory of Judiciary assets – if in charge of station
  11. Preparing monthly situational, activity and performance reports to the Chief Registrar
  12. Ensuring proper utilization of the Electronic Court Case Management Information System
  13. Submitting monthly returns to the Registry of Magistrates’ Affairs and Data Management
  14. Promoting a positive image of the Judiciary by adhering to the Judicial Code of Conduct, core values and zero tolerance to corruption among Court Staff and self
  15. Ensuring the Registry, Archives and Exhibit stores are organized
  16. Carry out any other duties that may be assigned to him/her by the supervisor.

It is a specialized appointing Commission enjoying broad oversight functions in relation to services delivered to the people by the Judiciary. The mandate and functions of the Commission are defined under Articles 146-151 of the Constitution. The Membership of the Commission is spelt out under Article 146 of the Constitution. It provides for a nine-member commission. The Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, and the Members are all appointed by the President with approval of Parliament.
