Laboratory Technician

Full-time

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the collection of blood and other test specimens as requested by doctors and clinicians. The technician will ensure timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory, analysis, and results delivery to the attending clinician/patient. will be responsible for the collection of blood and other test specimens as requested by doctors and clinicians. Job Title: Laboratory Technician (1)
Reports to: Head of Clinical Services
Engagement: Full-time
Duration: 1 year, renewable upon satisfactory performance

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Accurately collect and label test specimens according to clinic requisitions and standard operating procedures.
  2. Receive tissue samples from patients.
  3. Process and prepare collected specimens for laboratory testing.
  4. Ensure proper packaging, delivery of specimens to the lab, and timely result delivery to the Lung Institute Clinic (LIC).
  5. Maintain a register of all requested tests; follow up on tests sent out and ensure records of returned results.
  6. Assist in compiling data for the laboratory’s monthly reports.
  7. Clean and maintain the work area and medical equipment.
  8. Demonstrate excellent customer service and ensure timely processing of samples.
  9. Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the lab.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Diploma in medical laboratory technology
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Registration with the Allied Health Medical Professional Council with a valid Annual Practicing License (APL)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a busy clinical or medical research laboratory
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
