POSITION: Lecturer

Salary Scale: PU 6.1-TS
Tenure: Permanent
Responsible to: Head of the Department

 

The Lecturer will  teach, supervise, promote research studies and disseminate research findings.

 

 

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
a) A PhD in Paediatrics.
OR
b) Should have a Master of Medicine in Paediatrics and Child Health.
c) MBChB or MBBS.
d) PhD track is an added advantage.
e) Three (3) years teaching or research experience in a reputable Organization or an Institution of Higher Learning.
f) Should have at least Two (2) publications in a peer reviewed Journal.
g) Must be registered with the relevant Professional Body.
h) Demonstrated computer literacy with online learning platforms.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) To prepare lectures and conduct lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students using innovative approaches which include e-learning, to the satisfaction of the University’s Quality Assurance standards.
b) To guide and advise students on their academic performance and attend to their queries on academic issues.
c) To participate in and supervise Laboratory practicals.
d) To conduct research with peers in areas of his/her specialization among the present communities and disseminate the research findings.
e) To supervise and mentor students undertaking research in the present community.
f) To organize, attend and conduct seminars and relevant trainings.
g) To set tests, examinations and course work according to University standards and policies.
h) To mark tests and examinations scripts and compile results according to approved grading standards of the University.
i) To write and submit fundable research proposals to the government and other funding agencies.

KEY OUTPUTS:
a) Lecture plans prepared and Lectures delivered according to the time table.
b) Academic guidance and counselling provided to the students.
c) Laboratory practical supervised.
d) Research conducted and research findings disseminated/published.
e) Students undertaking research mentored and supervised.
f) Seminars and trainings organized, attended and conducted.
g) Tests, examinations and course work set, marked and results compiled.
h) Examination results graded and produced on time.
i) Fundable research proposals prepared and approved.
