Manager Business Applications

Full-time

The Manager Business Applications is responsible for managing the implementation, governance, and support of core applications at PostBank.

The position analyzes, plans, organizes, and leads teams to support production applications while managing risk, workload, scope, capacity, schedule, and budget.

It also involves collaborating with project sponsors, business and technical partners, subject matter experts, end-users, technical resources (internal and third-party vendors), senior management, and executives to ensure the needs of business users are addressed and continuous improvement is achieved.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Oversee IT support for Business Applications like Core Banking, ATM Systems, Mobile and Internet Banking, and other peripheral systems at PostBank Uganda.
  • Manage an application portfolio and associated projects.
  • Identify opportunities for application optimization, redesign, or process improvement.
  • Provide administrative support across applications as needed.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, vendors, and IT management to provide a strategic vision for applications, create system roadmaps, and business processes.
  • Balance competing Business Technology project constraints including scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources, and risks.
  • Build a technical culture around business systems emphasizing excellence, security, and user experiences.
  • Manage application maintenance outsourcing & software contract agreements; implement and monitor standards around scope management, financial management, and SLAs to mitigate risk and reduce costs.
  • Lead the application support team in providing application support and incident resolution for various applications.
  • Evaluate, install, configure, and deploy new applications, systems software, or products and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Analyze documentation and technical specifications of new applications to understand functionality.
  • Create and execute the Continuous Service Improvement program and manage platform performance.
  • Review and optimize business continuity strategies, service reporting, and service level management for Business Applications.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external frameworks for systems and processes.
  • Ensure that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Assist with technical negotiations of software and service provider contracts and oversee service delivery.
  • Manage Quality Assurance for Business Applications.
  • Perform any other duties assigned as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • Certification in an IT-related course (ITIL, COBIT, Oracle certifications, etc.) is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the IT department of a busy organization.
  • Experience in IT Applications, with in-depth experience in Core Banking systems being an added advantage.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • In-depth experience in SQL and DBMs (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • In-depth experience in Windows Operating systems.
  • Programming experience (Python, C#, PHP, JS, Java, etc.) is desired.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve user problems.
  • Scripting knowledge.
  • Understanding of business needs.
  • Versatile individual with a good attitude.
  • Experience in vendor management.
  • Hands-on experience with application implementations, enhancements, and integrations.
  • Proactive and strong problem-solving abilities.
