Marketing and Communications Officer

Full-time

Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) is hiring a Marketing and Communications Officer responsible for using social media, online platforms, traditional media, and marketing materials to raise awareness of Hospice Africa Uganda and promote its work at its clinical sites in Kampala, Mbarara, and Hoima.

HAU operates through three clinical sites:

  • Hospice Kampala
  • Mobile Hospice Mbarara
  • Little Hospice Hoima

HAU introduced modern methods of pain and symptom control, as well as holistic-centered care, for patients and families, suitable for LMICs (Low- and Middle-Income Countries) as well as for wealthier populations.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and energetic professional who is passionate about supporting the less fortunate and working with a team dedicated to providing critically ill people in Uganda with palliative care.

Additionally, they will promote palliative care education and learning courses offered by:

  • The Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care in Africa
  • The HAU International Programmes Department (for students in Uganda and across Africa)

The successful candidate will also support fundraising appeals and campaigns, produce compelling content packages, and generate regular emails to supporters, stakeholders, and team members.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Management

  • Manage and develop HAU’s social media accounts (X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) to increase engagement.
  • Create a new HAU YouTube account, migrating content from the old account where possible.
  • Provide a monthly social media analytics report.

Website Management (Currently Under Upgrade)

  • Work with the web developer to ensure the HAU website is up to date.
  • Develop and post content to support fundraising campaigns.
  • Regularly upload blogs and patient case studies.

Marketing Material Development

  • Design and produce marketing materials (brochures, infographics) using HAU’s Canva account.
  • Promote clinical and patient care programs, educational courses, and research.

Reports & Presentations

  • Support the Senior Management Team and other team members in producing reports and presentations.

Press Releases & Media Engagement

  • Work with the Senior Management Team to develop press releases related to HAU activities and advocacy work.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with print, broadcast, and online media.

Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Develop multimedia content packages, including impact stories for patients.
  • Share content on the website, social media, and donor reports.

Email Communications

  • Lead the creation and circulation of regular emails to supporters, stakeholders, and donors.

Strategy Development

  • Work with HAU’s external communications advisor to develop a Communications and Marketing Strategy.
