The Medical Theatre In-Charge at Norvik Hospital Ltd oversees the efficient and effective operation of the hospital’s medical theatre department. This role requires strong leadership, managerial skills, and in-depth knowledge of medical standards and regulations in Uganda. Ensuring high-quality patient care, compliance with medical protocols, and adherence to regulatory requirements are key responsibilities. The In-Charge manages staff, maintains equipment, and ensures safety and hygiene protocols are followed. Coordination with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff is vital for efficient patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management: Provide direction to the medical theatre team, supervise daily activities, and develop policies to enhance efficiency.
- Operations Management: Coordinate activities within the OT, schedule surgeries, and ensure availability of necessary supplies.
- Patient Care: Oversee surgical preparation, monitor patient flow, collaborate with medical staff, and ensure high-quality care.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure compliance with medical standards, conduct audits, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Staff Management, Development and Training: Provide training opportunities, conduct evaluations, and foster a culture of teamwork.
- Coordination and Communication: Facilitate effective communication between departments, coordinate pre-operative and post-operative care, and resolve conflicts.
- Equipment and Facility/Inventory Management: Ensure proper functioning of equipment, maintain inventory levels, and monitor environmental conditions.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, stay updated with advancements, and implement process improvements.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine or related field.
- Valid medical license in Uganda.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, with 2 years in a managerial role in a medical theatre setting.
- In-depth knowledge of medical procedures, surgical techniques, and anesthesia administration.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Familiarity with Ugandan medical laws, regulations, and standards.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality, safety, and dignity.
Working Conditions:
- Requires standing for long periods and exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials.
- Irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on surgery schedule.
