We are hiring Mpox Vaccination Officers (2)

In response to the ongoing Mpox outbreak, vaccination has emerged as a key tool for reducing both morbidity and mortality. Evidence from Europe and North America demonstrates that targeted vaccination can effectively curb the spread of Mpox and prevent severe outcomes in affected populations. Building on these successes, the WHO will support the roll-out of Mpox vaccination activities in countries with ongoing transmission, particularly those with clade 1b variant and those with allocated vaccine doses. By strengthening vaccination efforts, WHO aims to safeguard public health and reduce the impact of Mpox in the region

Summary Of Assigned Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Incident Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the following main duties:

  • Assist in creating and distributing plans for vaccination preparedness and deployment.
  • Develop training materials, field guides, and practical tools to facilitate Mpox vaccination in the African region.
  • Conduct training for healthcare workers, vaccinators, and other field staff involved in Mpox vaccination.
  • Foster strong coordination between surveillance and vaccination teams, ensuring access to current contact lists.
  • Enhance Mpox surveillance and support improved contact tracing, assisting vaccination teams in identifying and vaccinating contacts.
  • Strengthen community engagement and commitment to Mpox vaccination through clear risk communication and infodemic management.
  • Oversee and assess vaccination implementation to ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Collaborate with communication teams to produce visibility materials showcasing vaccination activities.
  • Document key lessons learned and effective practices from the vaccination efforts.
  • Support vaccine-related research activities as needed.
  • Undertake any additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Expected deliverables.

 

  • Preparedness and Deployment Plan: Mpox vaccination preparedness and deployment plan for target countries.
  • Training and Operational Tools: Comprehensive training materials, field guides, and operational tools, along with documented training sessions for healthcare workers and field staff.
  • Coordination and Surveillance Framework: Functional coordination framework between surveillance and vaccination teams with updated contact lists and regular reports on contact tracing activities.
  • Risk Communication and Community Engagement: Risk communication strategy document with tailored materials, infodemic management activities, and communication products showcasing vaccination efforts.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Final Reporting: Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework, bi-weekly progress reports, and a final report summarizing all activities, challenges, and recommendations for the Mpox vaccination program.

Educational Qualifications: MBCHB with a masters in Public Health

Experience: at least 5 years and more in vaccine preparedness, sensitasation, surveillance and reporting

Skills/Knowledge: Routine Immunization, supplementary immunization activities with an added advantage in ring vaccination

Languages and level required: English
