Powder Packing Supervisor

Contract

The overall purpose of the Powder Packing Supervisor is to offer technical management support, through supervision and control of production processes and coordinating production activities to ensure enough resources in the production units hence meeting production and quality  targets.

overseeing the packing operations and ensuring efficient and accurate packaging of products. This role involves supervising a team of packers, monitoring inventory levels, and maintaining quality control standards. The Packing Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager and collaborates with other departments to meet production goals and customer satisfaction.

Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Assist in overseeing and managing production schedules.
  2. Review the daily production plan and assess all materials requirements with the Production manager;
  3. Co-ordinate and manage labour scheduling for each production shift, procedures to ensure maximum attendance levels, and oversee shift handovers to ensure smooth transitions between shifts;
  4. Co-ordinate and manage the different production teams to different product SKUs/production sections;
  5. Communicate with the assigned production teams by utilizing visual management, delivering shift briefs with focus on quality, cost, and delivery, and gathering ideas for improvement across the production floor;
  6. Attend to all personnel issues during production shifts in line with company’s human resource policies and procedures;
  7. Assist in developing and suggest areas of training for production operators on the production line;
  8. Ensure safe working practices are maintained and standard operating procedures are adhered to;
  9. Carry out incident, accident and non-conformity investigations including associated reporting and remedial action closure;
  10. Monitor and report on production work in process, production efficiency, consumption, scrapping, waste and all key production metrics and effectively implement corrective action for variances identified;
  11. Check plant machinery and gather information from production operators about the functioning and maintenance requirements before the beginning of a new shift;
  12. Attend production planning meetings jointly with Production Planning Officer, and other department heads;
  13. Review, analyze and share the shift wise production reports with the Production Manager and Production Planning Officer;
  14. Review labour attendance records and prepare the daily manpower report to be submitted to the Production Manager;
  15. Prepare and provide feedback to the Production Manager on process improvement ideas and support in the implementation of continuous improvement activities to optimize results and improve  productivity;
  16. Perform monthly stock takes to verify the quantities of FG produced and materials held under the production section;
  17. Ensure that all applicable food safety standards are implemented.
  18. Verify all the applicable Critical Control Points (CCPs) and Operational Prerequisite Programmes (OPRPs), Prerequisite Programmes (PRPs);
  19. Provide training to both new hires and existing production team members on a periodic basis; and
  20. Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
  21. Supervise and coordinate the packing operations in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  22. Ensure that all packing activities are carried out efficiently and meet quality standards.
    Train and mentor packing staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  23. Monitor and maintain inventory levels of packing materials and supplies to ensure uninterrupted production.
  24. Collaborate with other departments, such as production and logistics, to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of packed products.
  25. Conduct regular inspections of packing equipment and machinery to identify any maintenance or repair needs.
  26. Implement and enforce safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for packing staff.
  27. Monitor and analyze packing productivity and efficiency metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  28. Resolve any packing-related issues or complaints from customers or internal stakeholders in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  29. Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in packing techniques and technologies to recommend and implement process improvements.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required

  • Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering/engineering from a recognized institution
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Milk powder packing , FFS machine maintenance and upkeep .

  • Familiar with Dairy Develop Authority’s (DDA) regulations, Dairy Industry Act, standards set by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and other relevant regulatory requirements that apply to Dairy production in Uganda
