 Program Assistant

Full-time

The Program Assistant will be focused on overseeing the implementation of an agricultural project that aims to enhancing access to markets in several districts in Eastern Uganda including Bulambuli, Mbale, Sironko, Kapchorwa, Bukwo, and Kween.

Number of Positions: 01

Purpose: To Oversee the implementation of Enhancing Access to Markets for an Inclusive Agricultural Transformation in Eastern Uganda Project in Bulambuli, Mbale, Sironko, Kapchorwa, Bukwo & Kween Districts.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Management of Project Partners and Stakeholders:
    Support and strengthen linkages between District Officials, KT, and other stakeholders.
    Assist Field Supervisors, ToTs, and farmers in producing quality grains for national and regional markets.
  • Project Planning and Implementation:
    Develop detailed project activity work plans and budgets in collaboration with the Program Team.
    Conduct activities according to the approved project plan.
    Provide technical input for new project proposals ​
    Help in preparation and coordination of training & training logistics.
    Build capacity in PHH techniques.
    Link farmers to suppliers and facilitate access to finance for post-harvest equipment.
    Provide logistical support for distributing PHH materials.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation:
    Ensure participant engagement in training sessions.
    Coordinate with trainers and stakeholders.
    Submit monthly technical reports.
    Implement monitoring and evaluation strategies.
    Collect and enter data related to training sessions.
    Support the establishment of Farmer Organizations.
    Manage data capturing and analysis.
    Prepare quarterly progress reports.

Competencies Required:
Excellent Interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to draft correspondence and correct documents.
Ability to identify discrepancies and errors in Plans, Budget, or automated databases.
Ability to operate Independently when carrying out established, recurring and non-recurring tasks.
Excellent technical skills in writing, editing, formatting, research, negotiation, and verbal communication.
Attention to detail.

 Educational Qualifications and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, Project Management, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
Additional training or experience in project coordination, or related areas is an asset.
At least 2-3 years of experience in supporting agricultural or rural development projects, preferably in a program assistant or administrative role.
Experience in data collection, report writing, and logistics coordination.
Demonstrated experience in Food Safety, Nutrition, Agro-processing is a definite advantage.
The ability to speak and communicate well in any of the local languages of Bulisa and Nwoya is an added advantage.
