Project Accountant (2)

Full-time

The Project Accountant (2) will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of conservation projects by ensuring sound financial management, compliance with donor requirements, and effective project monitoring and reporting.

Reports To: Senior Accountant

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Record financial transactions in the ERP system, process payments, and perform account reconciliations.
  • Manage project budgets, including preparation, reviews, re-forecasts, and cash flow planning.
  • Control and process advance payments for staff, partners, and other third parties using online platforms, cash, or cheques.

Project Monitoring and Reporting

  • Prepare periodic donor reports and coordinate donor audits, including action planning for audit recommendations.
  • Monitor fund flows, prepare calls for funds, and follow up with donors for timely remittances.
  • Conduct field monitoring and capacity-building sessions for project staff and partners.
  • Oversee project close-out processes as per donor agreements.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to WWF policies, donor requirements, and local laws in all financial activities.
  • Identify and report project risks to management.
  • Support internal and external audit processes, including preparing action plans to address findings.

Capacity Building and Partner Engagement

  • Provide training on financial management policies, donor rules, and relevant regulations to staff and partners.
  • Conduct financial monitoring and provide guidance to implementing partners.

Other Duties

  • Assist the Senior Accountant and project teams with additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, or a related field. A full accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in financial accounting, preferably within an international NGO or donor-funded project.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (advanced Excel skills) and experience with ERP systems.
  • Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in multicultural environments, and excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written).
  • Other Requirements: High ethical standards, resilience, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
