Project Accountant

Full-time

We are looking for a dynamic Project Accountant to support the effective delivery of projects in WWF Uganda Country Office.

The Project Accountant will support the implementation of conservation work under the guidance of the Senior Accountant, working closely with the Grants and Finance specialist and project implementing teams.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor project fund flows, prepare calls for funds from donors as per agreed schedules, and follow up with donors for remittances.
  2. Process payments to staff, implementing partners, statutory bodies, and third parties through online platforms, cash, or checks as appropriate.
  3. Process financial transactions, prepare monthly bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations, submitting them to the Finance Manager for approval.
  4. Prepare budgets for grant proposals and periodic forecasts for ongoing projects in line with donor guidelines and internal cost recovery standards.
  5. Ensure that project work-plans are adhered to and budgets follow the forecasted trends.
  6. Prepare periodic donor financial reports and discuss budget performance with project managers before submission to donors.
  7. Train staff and implementing partners on financial management policies, donor rules, and country laws, ensuring compliance.
  8. Drive initiatives to streamline internal control processes, enhancing efficiency and productivity.
  9. Maintain proper records of assigned projects for reviews by auditors, donors, and for smooth staff transitions.
  10. Coordinate project-specific compliance and annual audit processes per donor agreements.
  11. Ensure audit recommendations are addressed timely as per agreed audit action plans.
  12. Report project risks to management for effective project delivery.
  13. Lead teams on financial close-out processes for ending projects per donor agreements.

What You Need:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • University degree in Accounting/Finance or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA or ACCA is an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in financial accounting, preferably in an international environment (NGO or company).
  • Experience with government or donor-funded projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly advanced MS Excel.
  • Experience in using ERP systems is highly desirable.

  • Strong ability to prioritize, work within tight timelines, and multitask.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision with resilience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
