Project Accountant
Full-time
The Project Accountant will ensure financial integrity of the project, assist the GYSI advisor and Director programs and business development and the entire project team in finance related tasks and ensure accountability and compliance with the donor and Youth Alive rules and regulations. The Project Accountant will provide support to the finance department by managing daily accounting tasks, preparing financial statements and report as part of day-to-day work. The role holder must be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and pay attention to detail.

About USAID Project:
Youth Alive Uganda is a member of the Jhpiego led consortium implementing a five-year Urban Health Activity in Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Activity aims to strengthen urban health systems and improve equitable health outcomes among all urban dwellers by working with districts, municipalities, and the Kampala Capital City Authority to provide quality primary healthcare services. It also focuses on optimizing available resources and enhancing private sector capacity to ensure sustainable improvements in health outcomes and a more resilient urban healthcare system. The Activity will address poor quality of care, congestion in public health facilities, uncoordinated referral system, weak community and surveillance structures, limited private sector capacity, and gaps in enabling environment results in poor health outcomes. The project’s key expected results include the following: improved access to and use of quality, maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH), nutrition, and malaria services and improved disease outbreak response.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation of monthly financial reports in compliance with donor guidelines
- Preparation of annual, quarterly and monthly project budgets.
- Preparation of monthly funds requests
- Timely reparation of and monthly and annual Financial Statements using the quick books accounting package
- Preparation of monthly bank and mobile money reconciliation statements
- Preparation of monthly project payrolls
- Support the senior accountant to ensure the project PAYE, NSSF and WHT returns are Filled, payments registered and payments processed.
- Review the project staff timesheets to ensure accuracy
- Support the finance manager during internal and external audits to ensure project related support documents are submitted.
- Processing payments for Staff and Service providers
- Support the community team on the Urban Health Activity to review activity requests and accountabilities
- Support to oversee functionality and verification of facility-based telephones used to follow up any Urban Health Activity beneficiaries.
- Oversee submission, completeness and quality of community structures deliverables and timesheets monthly.
- Act as a liaison between YAU staff and Finance and Administration department of Urban Health Activity to ensure YAU staff concerns are raised, followed up and addressed
- Perform Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Degree in any Business-related field
- The job holder is required to have at least Level two professional Accounting qualification (either ACCA or CPA)
- Good understanding of bank products and services
- Proactive and self-starter.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and high levels of team work;
- Excellent Accounting skills
- Good level of competence in Excel, Word and Outlook and computerized accounting software
- Experience in using Quick Books Accounting package.
- Good communication and listening skills
- Excellent knowledge in financial Reporting,
- Pays Attention to Detail and Deadline-Oriented.
- Training and capacity building skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines Able to work in a busy office environment that often demands high levels of concentration
- Able to manage high volume workload
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Computer knowledge and skills
