Quality Control Officer
Full-time
The Quality Control Officer is responsible for supporting quality control inspections, identifying quality risks in the process plant, and working with the Quality Control and Processing Team Lead/Supervisor to close the risks.

Job Grade: M1
Key Result Areas:
1. Adherence to GMPs and Food Safety Guidelines
- Enforces proper handling of fish throughout processing activities to avoid product damage.
- Enforces the use of proper icing techniques to maintain the freshness of the fish.
- Ensures hygiene and housekeeping standards are maintained across all processing operations.
- Monitors packaging and loading processes to ensure fish remains fresh and presentable.
- Ensures employees follow all Food Safety and worker safety practices.
- Carries out quality control inspections to meet standards.
- Trains production and processing employees on food safety and SQF standards.
- Identifies and rectifies non-conformance in the processing section.
- Updates process, personnel, and environment inspection records daily.
- Educates processing staff on food safety regulations immediately upon observation.
- Reports non-conformances and corrective actions to QCTL on the day of occurrence.
- Inspects the processing plant, ablutions, and surroundings to ensure cleanliness.
2. Sampling and Calibration
- Selects products and ingredients for testing at specific stages of production.
- Tests for chemical, physical, and sensory characteristics.
- Takes samples for external and internal analysis according to the schedule.
- Conducts quality inspections of raw materials, products, and in-process checks.
3. Data Reporting and Interpretation
- Ensures quality inspection results are recorded and reported per Yalelo’s standard manuals.
- Records test data while applying statistical quality control procedures.
- Interprets gathered data against formulas, standards, and specifications to determine quality.
- Keeps management informed of significant issues or developments during inspections.
- Updates quality data in Microsoft Forms daily.
- Ensures all Power BI reports are updated by the second day of the month.
4. Certification
- Supports and implements continuous improvement activities to optimize results.
- Enforces strict adherence to legislative and business process requirements.
- Evaluates data and communicates with management to identify non-conforming products.
- Maintains accurate records of communications, audits, corrective actions, and monitoring.
- Ensures compliance with government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
- Keeps quality files up to date.
- Issues corrective action requests for non-conformances and ensures corrective actions are done within five working days.
5. Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Key Qualifications and Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology and/or Fisheries and Aquaculture.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in quality control operations.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership, planning, communication, and training skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Expertise in food safety management systems (ISO 22000:2018, HACCP, GMPs, GHPs).
- Knowledge of national and international food industry standards/regulations.
- Proficient in inspection/audit processes and coordinating multiple audits.
- Must have completed internal auditor training.
Working Conditions:
- 48 hours per week.
