Resident Internal Control Officer

Full-time

United Bank for Africa (UBA) is hiring a Resident Internal Control Officer to implement strategies that build and reinforce a policy and regulatory compliance environment across the bank.

DEPARTMENT/UNIT: Internal Control
REPORTS TO: Team Lead, Head Office Control

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct internal control checks across all business and service offices, including Head Office functions and branch networks, ensuring alignment with the bank’s internal control strategy.

  • Assess, analyze, and measure risks related to operational standards, making recommendations for policy amendments and process improvements.

  • Investigate breaches of policies and procedures, including fraud and forgeries, in line with investigation guidelines.

  • Continuously review and evaluate the validity and resolution status of open items in the bank’s General Ledger (GL) accounts.

  • Monitor compliance with internal and external policies, escalating control exceptions to relevant stakeholders.

  • Perform periodic assessments of expenses and seek necessary approvals per the expense management policy.

  • Conduct control training sessions and sensitizations based on findings from investigations and policy lapses.

  • Support a strong KYC and KYC(B) compliance environment by providing advisory services to executive management.

  • Prepare and submit analyzed control reports, highlighting key trends and issues for management review.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Effectiveness of control checks across all business and service units.

  • Timely risk assessment reports with recommendations.

  • Submission of prompt and high-quality investigation reports.

  • Full compliance with policies and controls, both internal and external.

  • Efficient Head Office and branch processes with continuous control improvements.

  • Regular expense evaluations and approvals.

  • Number of control training sessions conducted.

  • Strong adherence to KYC and compliance policies.

  • Timely submission of analyzed control reports to stakeholders.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Minimum of a university degree from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least 2 years in banking.

  • Understanding of banking, insurance, capital markets, pension funds, and financial services

  • Policy and regulatory interpretation and implementation skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and intranet mailing systems
