Risk and Compliance Officer

The Risk and Compliance Officer will evaluate material risks and provide feedback to facilitate reporting, monitor compliance and adherence to Hofokam policies, procedures, values and norms; evaluate control and governance systems and help the organisation accomplish its objectives and goals.

Reports to: Risk & Compliance Manager
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identifies and assesses material risks associated with Hofokam Limited’s current and proposed future business activities, including new products, new business relationships and any extension of operations or network and proposes the mitigation measures early enough.
- Do regular risk assessment in various departments and branches, come up with a risk matrix and propose the risk preventive measures.
- Identifies and keeps an inventory available of policies, national laws/regulations, standards, best practices and ensures that staff are informed of the essential compliance matters pertinent to Hofokam Limited nature of business.
- Support administration by maintaining updated Compliance Dashboards of written guidelines on risks mitigation measures to staff, partners and service providers on the appropriate implementation of the resolutions, laws, regulation, rules and standards through policies and procedures.
- Assesses the appropriateness of internal policies, procedures and guidelines, ensure a follow-up of any identified deficiencies, make recommendations to management for amendments where necessary, and supervise the implementation of corrective measures to mitigate the identified deficiencies.
- Reports to the Risk and Compliance Manager on any material breaches of laws, regulations, rules, code of conduct and standards of good practice and support initiation of investigation procedures in case of violation of procedures, rules and regulations.
- Monitors compliance with internal policies, procedures and guidelines by performing regular and comprehensive compliance risk assessments and testing, report the results on a regular basis and promptly to the Risk and Compliance Manager.
- Educate staff with respect to compliance with the applicable laws related to Hofokam business, rules and standards and act as advisor on compliance queries from staff members.
- Monitor the risks associated with safety of employees, clients and the assets of the company and recommend to management the appropriate risk mitigation measures to that effect.
- Monitor the key mapped business processes in credit, finance, Business technology, Business Development and Marketing to ensure there is no uncalled for delays to clients/partners/service providers by Hofokam Staff that could pose loss of market and reputation risk.
- Conducts regular assessments and reviews to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and maintains records of all data processing activities conducted by staff of Hofokam in accordance with the Data Protection policy.
- Support management in coordination of incident management across business units of Hofokam.
- Support management in business continuity assessment and management across business units of Hofokam.
- And any other assignments that falls within risk and compliance domain.
Key Result Areas
- Risk policies and frameworks effectively prepared and updated;
- Effective incident reporting;
- Effective weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual risk/compliance reporting;
- Regulatory compliance championed and sustained;
- Prompt review of entity policy frameworks facilitated;
- Trackers for compliance with Branches and report submitted to RCM regularly.
- Resolutions generated and kept updated.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Honor’s Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Commerce/Administration, Statistics, Microfinance or other relevant Business related field.
Experience:
- At least 2 years working experience in a financial institution preferably in Risk & Compliance, Audit, Credit or Finance/Accounts.
Competences/Abilities:
- Good analytical skills
- Report writing and presentation skills
- Ability to move geographically across business units (branches)
- Ability to work under pressure, team oriented, high integrity, willingness to lead and train others, assertiveness, ability to interpret numbers and financial ratios, good customer relations both internally and externally.
- Should be computer literate and have extensive communication and problem solving skills.
- Ability to adopt or change priorities according to the changing situation within a mission of the organization itself.
- Skills in participatory planning and after action review approaches.
- Age: 27 – 35 years.
