Main Purpose of the Job
The Senior Environment Officer for Green Economy will support the development and implementation of plans, strategies, and initiatives aimed at encouraging proactive and innovative approaches to compliance with national environment policies, legislations, and standards. The role focuses on promoting green economic development and ensuring a cleaner, greener environment for Uganda.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Principal Environment Officer Compliance Assistance in their duties.
- Develop and implement work plans and budgets for proactive and innovative approaches to environment compliance.
- Develop and implement actions to promote a cleaner, green economy.
- Identify needs and design response strategies to foster green economic development.
- Coordinate and monitor proactive and innovative approaches to environmental compliance.
- Promote initiatives that support green development and sustainability.
- Coordinate research and innovation in green economy practices in various government development programs.
- Develop and implement a green development certification program for Uganda.
- Create and implement a rewards system to recognize the best environmental practices in the country.
- Contribute to the development and management of an environment information system as part of the overall Environmental Information Management System.
- Work closely with other departments on all matters related to environmental compliance.
- Support and promote applied research on the best environmental practices.
- Raise public awareness and educate communities on eco-innovative approaches to green economy development.
- Supervise and appraise the performance of the Environment Officer – Green Economy.
- Perform any other official duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Person Specifications
Qualifications
- An Honors Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or Chemistry from a recognized University or Institution.
- A Master of Science Degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science and Technology, or related fields.
Experience
- At least three (3) years of relevant working experience in Environmental Management in a reputable organization.

- Strong understanding of green development and cleaner production practices.
- Leadership, team-building, and supervision skills.

- Excellent scholarly writing, publication, and presentation skills.
- Resource mobilization skills.
- Risk management skills.
- Proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
