Senior Risk Officer
Contract
Job Purpose:
The Senior Risk Officer will be responsible for implementing risk frameworks, risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies across designated Business Units in Uganda. The role involves ensuring these aspects are embedded into the firm’s operations in consultation with the International Business Risk Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Identification, Mitigation, Monitoring:
- Coordinate and enhance risk management within departments.
- Review internal and external audit reports to extract relevant risk and control information.
- Monitor and address adverse trends from Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
- Oversee resolution of internal audit recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, focusing on controls.
- Coordinate risk incident recording and root cause analysis.
- Maintain operational loss data and database.
- Business Processes and Policies Reviews:
- Establish, maintain, and improve risk management capabilities in collaboration with business units.
- Coordinate the Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) framework.
- Company and Business:
- Ensure continuous risk identification and assessment through timely completion of RCSA & KRI returns.
- Champion documentation of inter-departmental SLAs.
- Review key outsourcing arrangements in line with regulatory guidelines.
- Business Continuity Management (BCM):
- Assist the Risk Manager in implementing the BCM framework.
- Ensure BCP testing and program tools are updated.
- Train staff on BCM.
- Management Committees:
- Prepare reports for the Management Risk Committee (MRC).
- Coordinate secretarial duties for MRC meetings.
- Prepare risk reports as needed.
Working Relationships:
- Internal: Collaborate closely with all Britam staff.
- External: Engage with statutory bodies and external consultants/auditors.
Knowledge, Experience, and Qualifications Required:
- University graduate with a qualification in risk or actuarial sciences.
- Professional certification in risk or actuarial studies.
- At least 6 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of insurance operations, policies, risk management, and compliance standards.
- Strong understanding of International Accounting Standards and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent conceptual and analytical skills, planning, organization, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
