Senior Technical Advisor (BACKUP Health)

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor (BACKUP Health)

Knowledge, Skills, and Competences:

 

Highly motivated with strong leadership capabilities to manage country-level processes independently and collaborate effectively within a global team. Possesses strong managerial, organizational, intercultural, and communication skills.

Proficient in spoken and written English.

Skilled in using ICT tools and computer applications, including MS Office, email, and internet platforms.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Key Responsibilities:

 

Represent the BACKUP programme in Uganda and lead project implementation in the country.

Provide strategic advice to partner institutions and organizations in Uganda, focusing on community systems strengthening and technical support planning.

Engage in strategic policy discussions and forums, establishing and maintaining partnerships with national and international stakeholders.

Manage BACKUP activities in support of the Global Fund and track developments in other global financing mechanisms to enhance alignment and harmonization efforts.

  1. Specific Tasks:

 

Technical Advice:

 

Lead technical implementation of the BACKUP project in Uganda.

Identify technical assistance needs and opportunities, emphasizing community systems strengthening and civil society engagement.

Offer advice on potential TA activities aligned with national priorities and project strategies.

Management and Coordination:

 

Collaborate with the UK Government FCDO Global Fund Accelerator Adviser to plan and deliver technical and financial support.

Manage and coordinate BACKUP interventions, including monitoring, reporting, and logistical arrangements.

Communication and Networking:

 

Represent BACKUP Health in national meetings and foster partnerships among key stakeholders.

Coordinate BACKUP health communication efforts for public relations through national, regional, and global publication of project outcomes.

Other Duties/Additional Tasks:

 

Perform other duties and tasks as requested by management.

Qualifications:

 

Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a comparable qualification.

Details of Experience:

 

At least 7 years of professional experience in comparable positions.

Experience in public health in Uganda with public, private institutions, or non-profit/civil society organizations.

Experience in strengthening community health systems and civil society engagement.

Proven track record of building partnerships and effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.
