Organization description: The Ministry of Health under the Department of National Health Laboratory & Diagnostic Services (NHLDS) has received funding from Global Fund through the C19RM 2.0 grant funding to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and wishes to use part of the grant to build strong and resilient laboratory systems that provides reference testing including genomic surveillance for pathogens of public health threat.
The Ministry of Health therefore invites suitable qualified candidates to fill the positions existing in the Department of National Health Laboratory & Diagnostic Services (NHLDS) under the Global Fund Program
Job Title: Software Developer – Genomics
Number of Positions: Two (2)
Location: Genomics Laboratory
Reports to: Laboratory Manager Genomics
Job type: Full Time
Job Terms: Two years renewable Contract
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and execute projects to analyze molecular variation from next-generation sequencing and other genomics-related technologies.
- Engage in user experience, system design and specifications, development, testing, debugging, documentation, and support.
- Develop tools including APis and web interfaces used to interpret omics datasets. Implement solutions to improve analysis workflow efficiency.
- Improve standardization of data resources of various types, including genomic, other omics, phenotype, and associated metadata; review results and feedback to implement continuous development, present results and progress at the team and other meetings.
- Ensure the scalability and reliability of the software solutions.
- Document software functionalities and user guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and five (5) years of related experience
- Programming proficiency with two of the following languages: JavaScript,
Python, Java, C++, C#, Ruby, Go, Rust, and PHP. - Proficient with modern testing methodologies in the unit, integration, system testing, architectural modeling, and domain-driven design.
- Proficient in working in a Unix, Mac, or Windows environment, developing web applications or micro-services, and architectural intelligence (Al) with the ability to train models.
- Experience with containers, container orchestration, and agile development practices along with continuous integration.
- Familiarity with genomics data and molecular diagnostic use cases, database technologies, infrastructure-as-code, continuous deployment, test-driven development, and data management of large data sets with an interest in patient care.
