Treasury Trader

I&M Bank Uganda is hiring a Treasury Trader responsible for strategizing and executing trades in Foreign Exchange & Fixed Income securities, including bonds and other debt instruments.
Reports to: Head of Trading
The Treasury Trader ensures compliance with the organization’s risk management guidelines and trading strategies, demonstrating:

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Trade Execution
-
Execute trades in fixed income securities and foreign exchange (Forex) markets, ensuring compliance with both market regulations and internal policies.

Optimize trading strategies to maximize returns while minimizing risk exposure.

Develop daily trading strategy for the desk and provide guidance to the Sales Dealer team.

Manage all currency positions and the global bank position.

Formulate trading desk strategies and oversee margin management.

Expand counterparties traded with and develop relevant trading strategies.
Market Analysis and Decision-Making

Act as a market maker, conducting in-depth analysis of market trends, economic indicators, and financial reports.

Stay updated on global financial news, adjusting strategies in response to market shifts.
Relationship Management
-
Build and maintain strong relationships with interbank trading counterparties, clients, and other key stakeholders.

Collaborate with relationship managers to facilitate smooth trade execution and enhance client satisfaction.
Pricing and Sales Support

Develop competitive pricing models for clients to grow the bank’s market share.

Support the sales team with tailored pricing solutions that ensure both client value and bank profitability.
Client-Focused Trading

Engage in direct trading with clients in both fixed income securities and foreign exchange.

Identify and capitalize on trading opportunities beneficial to both the bank and its clients.
Risk Management

Monitor trading activities to ensure alignment with established risk management frameworks and organizational limits.

Regularly assess risk metrics, including Value at Risk (VaR), to safeguard the bank’s interests.
Personal Development and Training

Identify knowledge gaps and create a personal development plan focused on ongoing learning.

Participate in industry events and professional development opportunities.
Compliance and Audit

Ensure full adherence to I&M Bank’s internal policies, liquidity investment directives, and regulatory frameworks.

Maintain an “Acceptable” audit rating by ensuring all trades comply with internal audit standards and regulations.

Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports on transactions and income.
Industry Visibility

Represent the bank at industry events and forums to promote its capabilities.

Actively contribute to discussions on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market dynamics.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum Education Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field (mandatory).

A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
-
ACI Dealing Certificate is mandatory for this role.
Work Experience:
-
At least 4 years of experience in a commercially oriented organization.

Minimum 2 years experience at a supervisory level.
